No. 81: The Juicy Home Renovation Update You've Been Waiting For No.2--A Photo Journal of our New Home So Close to the Finish Line
Power is on, hardware is in, floors are being stained and we can see the finish line
I’m going to be honest and say this house is breaking my heart right now. It’s broken my heart for three years. I’ve shared this thought more times than I can count over the renovation process, but you can imagine the level of stress—stress on finances, stress on the body, stress on the marriage—that can mount when a build you planned and budgeted to last one year stretches to three years.
Especially a build where your husband is the project manager and you’re the designer, and both parties are doing those jobs for the first time on a large luxury custom home scale.
One day I’ll share in more detail but for now, I’m just grateful to be at this point. The amount of hours we’ve logged in and on this house is unfathomable but the excitement on our kids’ faces over everything being ready for one last coat of paint has been something I’ll never forget.
The last time you saw the house, Juicy Home Update No. 1, The white oak front staircase was still in process, the exterior paint was just about to begin and paint was wrapping up. At this point we’re a couple weeks away from the final construction inspection and next up will be the final coat of paint, staining the hardwood that’s been hiding under paper for months and months and crossing our fingers.
Again, I can’t express how many hours my sweet Z has spent in this house as a job site. We bought it before her first birthday and next month, she’ll turn four. She’s seen it with animal poop in the hallways, with a wide open staircase ripped out by previous owners, completely roofless, covered in dust and every phase in between. She is such a trooper and in a way, she’s already grown up in this space.
