When O’s dad passed away, we spent two immediate and unexpected weeks in Canada at my brother and sister-in-law’s house while we planned the funeral. Our sons are three weeks apart and our daughters a few months apart which makes for the most special cousin time that has become more and more rare as they grow up. Before we flew home in an attempt to head back to “real life,” we vowed to spend more time together because life is just too short. We kept good on that promise and weeks ago, we schemed to surprise their kids with their very first trip to Texas for a cousin reunion.
We’ve been here there and everywhere since they arrived early this week which means I have almost no photos of myself and our meals have looked like taking them to the Texas hot spots even if we can’t eat there ourselves. We spent a day downtown in the city, we drove two hours south for a day at Magnolia, I went to my friend’s funeral in a floral gown surrounded with a sea of floral dresses just like she would have wanted, cheered on Lema at an 8am basketball playoff game and went about six thousand other places on our Texas hosting tour. It’s been such a blessing and I’ll be so sad to see them go tomorrow. We’ll be back to meal planning next week.
