On My Body & On My Plate 3.3.24
accidental sister twinning, too many meals and a delightfully busy week
The first week after the whole family has recovered from sickness (aside from E who is still trying to dodge my tissue advances) is always a good one. You remember just how vibrant life is! You want to get dressed! You want to leave the house! You, perhaps, want to see real life PEOPLE! It was a week full of the usual—meetings, house visits, work on the walking pad, therapy, chiropractor and doctors visits and all the life in between.
As a side note, I found out while reviewing my bloodwork that instead of doing AIP for 30 days, I need to do it for 90 days. I just keep telling myself I’ve done this before and anything is worth my health. But y’all, let me just say that I miss quick, fun food so much. I realize grabbing a carrot or celery stick is quick, but it’s not fun. I made AIP salmon patties this week which were fun, but not quick. You see what I mean. So I made about a million meals I didn’t photograph because they look sad and are very niche to my current protocol, but I’ll round up an AIP post in the end if that’s helpful for y’all. I still don’t say y’all in real life even after six years in Texas and I feel like a fraud if you don’t know that when I type it. Happy Sunday, friends. (If it says it’s too long at the end of the email, be sure to click ‘View More’ or see the letter in it’s intended form here.)
We saw a 40 degree day and an 80 degree day this week so we had the full Texas experience. I’ve had this shirt for a million years by one of my favorite brands and while it’s super pricey for a top, it’s one of those things I find to be the perfect investment. I genuinely cannot tell you how many times I’ve worn my now three of these shirts-though the price has risen over the years. I wear it as a cover up. I tie the bottom and wear it with jeans (like this.) Near the end of pregnancy, it’s the thing I wear over weird maternity jeans and dresses when my arms start doing strange things. It’s perfect. The jeans are super old Gap.
You know this sweater well—it’s old H&M and the same thing exists eternally at H&M, Zara and probably Target. The skirt is Reformation and while it’s actually a little big, I love it and feel so comfortable in it. I threw this on with five minutes to get ready before Church.
I wore this for therapy and a coffee date and clearly love all things yellow. This H&M linen bomber is so good. The tee is the coziest tee I own and I’ve raved about it a thousand times here. I personally prefer a more cropped, fitted tee so I’m shocked at my love for this since it’s definitely oversized. I will say, I don’t love these jeans and the fact that very few of my jeans fit is only half the problem. The shape isn’t great and I prefer my other grey jeans so it’s time to give these ones a better home.
this is a very unprepared photo in a many-years-old cardigan and even older dress, but I wore this for a day where the schedule involved a house visit, a meeting with the two littles in tow, school pickup and soccer practice.
My parents were out of town so my sister stepped in for Grandparents Day at my big kids’ school. She got there much earlier than me so naturally, I had her stand in one of the last open spots to save it for my car. Guys. When I saw her outfit in that parking lot, it was one of those moments where you’re like yea, we’re sisters. The orange and tan vibe was strong and we definitely look like we planned our outfits. Look at Enakhe judging us.
AIP pancakes are definitely not the same as regular pancakes but it’s a start and I was so thankful not to have beef and greens for breakfast this day. Also, my bright orange nail polish makes me happy all year round. It’s non-toxic and wonderful.
For whatever reason, it didn’t register that chia seeds are, in fact, a seed and so I can’t have them for 90 days. You know how I feel about chia pudding so I was grateful for this little delight,
this is what maybe 6 of my meals this week looked like. This was breakfast and it’s exactly what it looks like: ground beef, super peppery arugula with olive oil and balsamic in a cassava tortilla.
I also forgot I’m not allowed peppers of any kind so I won’t be able to eat my beloved fire-roasted veggies for a while either. We had a sweet send off, though.
BLT night on paper plates in the driveway is the perfect way to end soccer practice night.
This is what O calls his “butter bowl.” Nutzo butter and sliced berries and banana make up the bulk of it. I top it with sliced (slivered) dates and raisins plus shredded coconut. He’s vegan and he does intermittent fasting daily with actual fasting worked in every week so this is a great calorie packed treat that the kids inevitably ask for mini versions of whenever they see me slicing fruit.
Lastly, it’s the time of year where I’m slicing mango every day and everyone is thrilled. I give E the seed to work on as long as he wants, I slice one up for O to take with him for the day and the kids all try to figure out which half has the most meat on it. If you’re intimidated by cutting mango, just feel for the seed, cut on either side of it and slice both halves almost all the way through stopping at the peel. There’s plenty of flesh to eat around the seed, you just need to peel the last of the skin off and you’re good to go.
Solidarity with AIP. It's pretty brutal. I totally get it. Heal Me Delicious has a few excellent recipes for AIP tortillas and scones. Almost always I find that AIP baked goods are a flop, but her recipes are winners. https://healmedelicious.com/pumpkin-scones/
The photo with your sister is too cute. I have one sister and she lives near and we have a meet up for coffee/chat/work. Inevitably we end up where something similar. Also, I wish I could manage cassava. It doesn’t like me. It all looks great!
