This week, the pendulum swung from a dalmatian onesie to a full length gown—that’s some week. We had our Halloween traditions (taco beef soup and dessert and my parents’ house before trick-or-treating) plus school picture day for the big kids and family photo shoot day for all of us. If you also have Nigerian babies, you can read between the lines and picture just how much time I spent prepping hair for braids and actually braiding the girls.
As you know by now, there were also a few job site visits, lots of time with just Zeameh and Enakhe and soccer and football games to end the week. Here’s what was on my body and on my plate!
I’m wearing my go-to photo shoot dress in the opening photo because it works so well in literally every season of my life. I bought it when I was pregnant with Keogena and wore it for my maternity shoot with Z. At 4 months postpartum I still don’t feel like my clothes fit me properly so instead of buying something new, I knew it was time to whip out old faithful. It’s completely sold out on the site, but this is another flattering dress for photos and this one too.
Favorite free people turtleneck for many years in a row. old gap wide leg white jeans. pointed loafers—similar here.
My favorite outfit of the week by a longshot
excuse the face but this is keogena’s work. sweater is old doen. h&m tank. old the great trousers. current favorite boot.
A quick go-to lunch: applegate turkey burgers on top of an easy salad with a homemade dressing
Paleo zuchinni bread with some vegan white chocolate chips
We call this “pizza bread.” It takes approximately 13 seconds to pull together which is exactly what I want to work into the menu on a busy night. A gluten-free baguette, Rao’s tomato basil pasta sauce, vegan mozzarella and pepperoni all thrown under the broiler for two minutes. Perfect to serve with a quick salad!
I don’t eat pizza bread (the bread isn’t free of ingredients I avoid) so this is my version. I’ve been craving flatbread for months so I decided to attempt it on my own—I used a gluten free dough from the Sprouts and rolled it out, topped it with oil, chili flakes, vegan parmesean and vegan liquid mozzarella. My whole family devoured it so fast that I made the same thing the next day. I top it with these finishing oils I’ve been obsessed with for a decade.
A boba date with my babies. I get a decaf tea with almond milk and tapioca pearls or a mango strawberry smoothie with tapioca and strawberry pop pearls. My mouth is watering.
We almost never go out to eat with our kids because the menu usually just isn’t worth the cost or trip, but I love the RH restaurant so much and knew the kids would be so excited about how fancy it is. Since our family photos were downtown, we decided to make a day of it and had a long leisurely lunch followed by some time relaxing on the rooftop. This burger (we go bunless) and their shoestring fries with a salad is a lunch I indulge in whenever I can!
