For clarity and full disclosure: I’m not currently in a shopping season. I haven’t so much as bought a light sweater in anticipation for Fall Fashion which, as someone who got her degree in the expertise and delight of textiles and fibers and trend forecasting and color theory, this is a struggle. Everyone knows this is the best and most exciting time of year to shop. There’s a lot in this letter and trust me, as the curator and creator of this Edit, I get it.
I absolutely made it in the hopes that those of you who wait for advice and leading to shop, you find all the links you need. But I equally make these for those of you who aren’t shopping right now to be able to take this thing into your closet and pull together fresh and exciting outfits with what you already own. I pray this doesn’t breed discontent and bitterness or a comparison and envy but that it serves as a joy and excitement making way for us all to get dressed in a way that feels fun and easy and light. Genuinely praying that as I work through it.
Because I know clothes are a funny thing in that they’re are trivial and could be seen as foolish but also can be elevated to an unhealthy place where they become a burden. Or the thing we ignore the pull to stop over consuming. Or the thing that allows us to live in a constant state of discontentment without ever surrendering it. The little things are always the big things—clothes just fall into that category every time, don’t they? So yes, there is a level of frivolity. But also, this is an area I can’t ignore a gifting in and pull to so now that we’ve laid an extra thick layer of warning, let’s get into the fun stuff.
